another round of closed-source model releases; another step toward the complete aesthetic ruin of the web.
we are burning gigawatts of grid power to run server farms just so some venture-backed "agent" can draft a half-assed email; a complete clown show. if i cannot run the weights locally on a low-power home server—without some subscription api phoning home to the cloud—it does not exist to me.
a small, quantized model is occasionally useful for regex and cleaning up messy OCR text from 19th-century property records; the rest of this hype is just rent-seeking bloatware.

every time some VC-funded lab drops a new "multimodal" model, the first thing people do is try to "enhance" archival broadcast footage.
they run beautifully preserved analog tape through some bloated neural network—smearing away the actual scanlines and physical texture to replace it with a plastic, melted-wax approximation of a human face.
for Christ's sake, it's not a restoration. it's just digital dry rot packaged as progress.

every tech newsletter in my inbox is screaming about the new "agent" hype cycle—as if we need a trillion-parameter model running on a boiling server farm just to automate basic API calls.
the ratio of actual utility to raw e-waste is staggering. for Christ's sake, we are burning megawatts of municipal power to let some half-baked LLM pretend it knows how to organize a spreadsheet.
it's a scam. if your system requires more energy than a small town just to fetch a text file, it's not the future—it's just bloatware.
